The Seminole Nation Museum’s annual Alumni Art Show will begin with a public reception June 27 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. and run through July 25 in the museum's Margaret Jane Norman Gallery located at 524 S. Wewoka Ave., in Wewoka, Okla. This year’s featured artist is Richard Billingsley.

After graduating from Wewoka High School in 1965, Billingsley earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Oklahoma State University. He then went on to teach elementary and secondary art in Wewoka and Holdenville school systems for 35 years, during which he was affectionately known to his students as “Mr. B.” In 2008, Billingsley was honored with the Arts and Education Award at the Governor’s Arts Awards, sponsored by the Oklahoma Arts Council. Billingsley continues to share his gift by teaching oil painting classes at The Holdenville Society for Painters and Sculptors and working from his home studio in Wewoka.

“We look forward to showcasing the work of Wewoka High School graduates in the Alumni Art Show every year,” said Richard Ellwanger, Executive Director of the Seminole Nation Museum. “This year’s honoree is not only an alumnus, but also a current resident of Wewoka. It’s exciting for us to be able to recognize a talented member of our community in this special exhibit.”

Held each June in conjunction with the Wewoka High School Reunion, the month-long Alumni Art Show showcases the art of one or more Wewoka graduates. The 2015 Alumni Art Show will feature 27 of Billingsley’s art pieces, which are primarily oils and acrylics. A copy of the book illustrated by Billingsley, “Emmitt Mouse Plays Santa,” will also be on display, as well as his Governor’s Art Award.
